Yellow lisianthus (Eustoma grandiflorum), also called Texas bluebell or prairie gentian, bears rose-like blooms in clear yellow. The long-lasting flowers are prized for cutting, with strong stems and an excellent vase life. Plants reach 24-36 inches in the garden.

Why choose our seeds?

  • Rose-like yellow blooms with an exceptionally long vase life
  • Excellent cut flower for bouquets and arrangements
  • 20 seeds per packet

How to grow Yellow Eustoma Lisianthus seeds

Choose Your Planting Method

  • Indoors: Start indoors in late winter — lisianthus needs a long head start (12 or more weeks before the last frost).
  • Outdoors: Transplant outdoors only after the last frost, when seedlings are sturdy with several true leaves.

Prepare Your Materials

  • Seed-starting trays or pots (if indoors)
  • Well-draining seed-starting mix
  • Humidity dome or plastic wrap (to hold in moisture)
  • Spray bottle for misting

Sowing the Seeds

  • Sow on the surface of moist mix and press gently — the tiny seeds need light to germinate and must not be buried.
  • Cover with a humidity dome or plastic wrap to hold moisture; vent daily.

Provide the Right Conditions

  • Light: Bright light; 12 or more hours of light daily gives the best germination.
  • Temperature: 68-77°F (20-25°C) for germination; grow on cooler, around 60-65°F (16-18°C), to avoid rosetting.
  • Humidity: Keep the surface evenly moist but never waterlogged; mist rather than drench.

Germination

  • Germination takes 10-21 days and seedlings grow slowly.
  • Transplant carefully — lisianthus dislikes root disturbance.

Transplanting

  • Pot on when seedlings have about 4 true leaves.
  • Plant out 6-8 inches apart in rich, well-drained soil; provide twiggy supports for tall stems.

Care Tips

  • Sun: Full sun; afternoon shade in very hot climates.
  • Water: Water well at planting, then keep soil evenly moist.
  • Fertilizer: Feed lightly and regularly through the season for the best blooms.

Bloom Time:

Blooms in summer, roughly 60-75 days after transplanting.
