Taiwan Rainbow Waltz is a tropical hibiscus (Hibiscus rosa-sinensis) type bred for large, showy blooms in a rainbow of bright colors on a glossy evergreen shrub. It grows 4–8 feet in warm climates (smaller in pots) and flowers for months when it has heat and sun. Note: flowers grown from seed can vary in color and form.
Why choose our seeds?
- Large, flamboyant blooms in an exciting range of colors
- Evergreen shrub habit for patios, poolside pots, and tropical-style gardens
- Long flowering season in warm weather; container-friendly in cooler climates
How to grow Taiwan Rainbow Waltz Hibiscus seeds
Choose Your Planting Method
- Indoors: Start 8–12 weeks before the last frost — this is the reliable way in most climates.
- Outdoors: Sow directly only where nights stay warm and frost is long past.
Prepare Your Materials
- Seed-starting trays or pots (if indoors)
- Well-draining potting mix
- Humidity dome or plastic wrap
- Spray bottle for misting
- Fine sandpaper or a nail file
Sowing the Seeds
- Nick the hard seed coat lightly with sandpaper, then soak seeds in warm water for 12–24 hours.
- Sow about 1/2 inch deep in moist seed-starting mix.
Provide the Right Conditions
- Light: Bright, indirect light; move to full sun gradually after sprouting.
- Temperature: 75–85°F (24–29°C) for the best germination.
- Humidity: Cover with a dome or wrap to keep the mix evenly moist.
Germination
- Seeds typically sprout in 2–4 weeks — be patient and keep the soil consistently moist, never waterlogged.
- Remove the cover once seedlings emerge.
Transplanting
- Pot on seedlings when they have 2–3 sets of true leaves.
- Move outdoors only after all frost danger has passed and nights are warm.
- Space 2–3 feet apart in the ground, or grow one per large container.
Care Tips
- Sun: Full sun to part shade; more sun means more flowers.
- Water: Keep soil evenly moist but not soggy; container plants dry out faster.
- Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced fertilizer through the growing season.
- In zones below 9, bring plants indoors before the first frost; prune in spring to keep plants compact.
Bloom Time:
Spring through fall in warm conditions; plants bloom more heavily with heat and full sun.
