Sweet Pea Cocktail is a climbing sweet pea selection grown for sweetly fragrant, ruffled blooms on long stems. Like all sweet peas, it is a cool-season annual that climbs by tendrils, making it a lovely choice for trellises, fences, and cutting gardens where the scent can be enjoyed.
Why choose our seeds?
- Sweetly fragrant blooms — pick freely for indoor bouquets
- Climbing habit that covers trellises, arches, and fences
- Long stems that are made for cutting; the more you pick, the more it flowers
How to grow Sweet Pea Cocktail seeds
Choose Your Planting Method
- Indoors: Start indoors 4–6 weeks before the last frost in deep pots, as sweet peas form long roots quickly.
- Outdoors: Direct-sow as soon as the soil can be worked in early spring; sweet peas tolerate light frost.
Prepare Your Materials
- Deep pots or root trainers (if indoors)
- Well-draining potting mix
- A trellis, netting, or other climbing support
- Spray bottle for misting
Sowing the Seeds
- Sow about 1/2 inch deep.
- Soaking seed in room-temperature water for several hours before sowing can speed up sprouting.
Provide the Right Conditions
- Light: Full sun to light shade; sweet peas bloom best in full sun with cool roots.
- Temperature: 64–68°F (18–20°C) for germination; plants prefer cool growing weather.
- Humidity: Keep the soil consistently moist.
Germination
- Seedlings usually emerge in 14–21 days.
- Pinch the growing tip when plants are a few inches tall to encourage branching.
Transplanting
- Plant out around the last frost date; harden off indoor-started plants first.
- Thin or space to about 5–6 inches apart at the base of the support.
Care Tips
- Sun: Full sun to light shade.
- Water: Keep soil consistently moist; mulch to keep roots cool.
- Fertilizer: Rich, fertile soil gives the best display; avoid overfeeding with nitrogen.
- Provide a strong support for the vines to climb, and pick flowers often to prolong bloom.
Bloom Time:
Spring into early summer; regular picking extends flowering. Note: sweet pea seeds and plants are not edible — do not ingest any part of the plant.
