How to grow Success Red Trailing Petunia seeds
Choose Your Planting Method
- Indoors: Start 8–10 weeks before the last frost — petunias need a long head start.
- Outdoors: Not recommended; direct sowing gives a very short season.
Prepare Your Materials
- Seed-starting trays or pots
- Fine seed-starting mix
- Humidity dome or plastic wrap
- Spray bottle for misting
Sowing the Seeds
- Sow on the surface and do not cover — petunia seeds need light to germinate.
- No pre-treatment is needed.
Provide the Right Conditions
- Light: Bright light; uncovered seeds must receive light.
- Temperature: 72–77°F (22–25°C) for the fastest, most even germination.
- Humidity: Cover with a dome or wrap and mist to keep the surface moist.
Germination
- Seedlings emerge in 7–14 days at warm temperatures (up to 21 days in cooler conditions).
- Remove the cover once sprouts appear; keep soil moist and give strong light to avoid leggy seedlings.
Transplanting
- Pot up when seedlings have a few true leaves.
- Move outdoors after the last frost; harden off first.
- Space plants 10–15 inches apart — trailing types need room to spread.
Care Tips
- Sun: Full sun — at least 6 hours daily for heavy blooming.
- Water: Water regularly; container plants may need daily watering in summer heat.
- Fertilizer: Feed every 2–3 weeks with a balanced fertilizer; petunias are heavy feeders.
- Pinch young stems for bushier plants, deadhead spent blooms, and cut back leggy stems mid-season for a fresh flush.
Bloom Time:
Early summer to frost with regular deadheading.
