Success Burgundy is a trailing petunia with rich burgundy-red blooms on vigorous, spreading plants bred to cascade over baskets, window boxes, and walls or to carpet the front of a bed. The spreading habit fills containers fast and keeps flowering for months.
Trailing petunias are workhorses of summer containers: one plant can spill two feet or more, covered in color from planting until frost.
Why choose our seeds?
- Rich burgundy blooms on a vigorous trailing habit for baskets and spillers
- Fast-spreading plants that fill containers quickly
- Nonstop color from planting until frost
How to grow Success Burgundy Trailing Petunia seeds
Choose Your Planting Method
- Indoors: Start indoors 8 to 10 weeks before the last frost.
- Outdoors: Direct sow after frost danger, though indoor starting blooms sooner.
Prepare Your Materials
- Seed-starting trays or pots (if indoors)
- Well-draining potting mix
- Spray bottle for misting
Sowing the Seeds
- Surface sow on moist mix and do not cover — light is required for germination.
- Keep the surface evenly moist with gentle misting.
Provide the Right Conditions
- Light: Bright light from sowing; do not exclude light.
- Temperature: Around 75°F (24°C).
- Humidity: A humidity dome or plastic cover helps until sprouts appear.
Germination
- Germination in 7 to 10 days.
- Grow on bright and slightly cool for sturdy plants.
Transplanting
- Set out after all frost danger.
- Spacing: 10 to 12 inches apart in beds; one plant per 10–12 inch basket for a full cascade.
Care Tips
- Sun: Full sun for the heaviest bloom.
- Water: Regular water; hanging baskets dry fast and may need daily watering in heat.
- Fertilizer: Feed every 1 to 2 weeks with balanced liquid fertilizer; heavy bloomers are hungry plants.
- Trim back leggy stems in midsummer to refresh plants for a strong fall flush.
Bloom Time:
Blooms from late spring until frost.
