- Compact, free-branching plants ideal for baskets, containers, and borders
- Long bloom season — flowers from early summer until frost with deadheading
How to grow Sparkler Mix Petunia seeds
Choose Your Planting Method
- Indoors: Start seeds indoors 8-10 weeks before the last frost date.
- Outdoors: Sow outdoors only after all frost danger has passed and soil is warm (at least 70°F / 21°C).
Prepare Your Materials
- Seed-starting trays or pots (if indoors)
- Well-draining potting mix
- Clear plastic wrap or a humidity dome
- Spray bottle for misting
Sowing the Seeds
- Surface sow — press the tiny seeds gently onto moist seed-starting mix but do not cover them; petunia seeds need light to germinate
- Mist lightly to settle the seeds without burying them
Provide the Right Conditions
- Light: Bright light; seeds need light to germinate
- Temperature: 70-80°F (21-27°C)
- Humidity: Cover with plastic wrap or a dome to keep the surface from drying out until germination
Germination
- Seeds typically germinate in 7-21 days
- Remove the cover once seedlings emerge and grow them on in bright light at 60-75°F (16-24°C)
Transplanting
- Transplant when seedlings have 2-3 sets of true leaves and frost danger has passed
- Harden off over 7-10 days
- Space plants 10-12 inches apart
Care Tips
- Sun: Full sun for the heaviest bloom
- Water: Keep evenly moist; containers and baskets dry out fast and need daily watering in heat
- Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 2-3 weeks once established
- Pinch back young stems to encourage bushy growth and deadhead spent flowers to prolong blooming
Bloom Time:
Early summer until the first frost.
