Solanna Golden Sphere is a large-flowered tickseed (Coreopsis grandiflora) with rounded, golden-yellow blooms that glow against dark green foliage. Coreopsis is an easy, sun-loving perennial for borders, containers, and cutting gardens, blooming for months with very little fuss. Deadheading keeps the golden display going from early summer into fall.
Why choose our seeds?
- Rounded, golden-yellow blooms on compact, well-branched plants
- Long bloom season from June through September with deadheading
- Suits borders, patio pots, and cutting gardens; adapts to average garden soil
How to grow Solanna Golden Sphere Coreopsis seeds
Choose Your Planting Method
- Indoors: Start 6-8 weeks before your last frost for first-year blooms.
- Outdoors: Direct sow in spring after the last frost, or in fall in mild climates.
Prepare Your Materials
- Seed-starting trays or pots
- Well-draining seed-starting mix
- Humidity dome or clear plastic wrap (optional)
- Spray bottle for misting
Sowing the Seeds
- Sow on the surface of the mix and press in firmly; do not cover the seeds, as they need light to germinate.
- Keep the surface of the mix moist but not waterlogged.
Provide the Right Conditions
- Light: Do not exclude light after sowing; bright light benefits germination and seedlings.
- Temperature: 65-77°F (18-25°C).
Germination
- Seeds germinate in 1-3 weeks.
- Transplant seedlings to small pots when large enough to handle.
Transplanting
- Acclimate young plants to outdoor conditions for a week or two before planting out after all risk of frost.
- Space plants 9-12 inches (23-30 cm) apart.
Care Tips
- Sun: Full sun for the heaviest bloom.
- Water: Water until established; mature plants prefer average to dry soil and dislike constant wetness.
- Fertilizer: Not heavy feeders; rich, over-fertilized soil causes floppy growth.
- Deadhead regularly to prolong flowering; cut plants back by half if bloom slows midseason.
Bloom Time:
June through September.
