Salmon Baby is a compact nasturtium (Tropaeolum majus) with soft salmon-colored blooms on mounded, bushy plants. It flowers freely from summer to frost, bringing bright, old-fashioned color to borders, edging, and containers — and its blooms and leaves are edible, with a mild peppery bite.

Why choose our seeds?

  • Soft salmon blooms on compact, mounded plants
  • Easy and fast from seed — a dependable summer flower
  • Great for beds, borders, edging, and containers; blooms are edible

How to grow Salmon Baby Nasturtium seeds

Choose Your Planting Method

  • Indoors: Start 4–6 weeks before the last frost in plantable pots — nasturtiums dislike root disturbance.
  • Outdoors: Direct sow after the last frost, once the soil can be worked.

Prepare Your Materials

  • Seed-starting trays or pots (if indoors)
  • Well-draining potting mix
  • Spray bottle for misting

Sowing the Seeds

  • Sow 1/2 inch deep and cover — nasturtium seeds germinate in darkness.
  • No pre-treatment is needed.

Provide the Right Conditions

  • Light: Keep covered during germination; give bright light after emergence.
  • Temperature: 60–70°F (16–21°C).

Germination

  • Seedlings usually emerge in 7–10 days.
  • Keep the soil evenly moist, never soggy.

Transplanting

  • Move out after all frost danger has passed; set plantable pots directly in the soil.
  • Space plants 10–12 inches apart.

Care Tips

  • Sun: Full sun to part shade; more sun means more flowers.
  • Water: Water regularly until established; nasturtiums are not fussy once growing.
  • Fertilizer: Little is needed — rich soil produces leaves at the expense of flowers.
  • Deadhead to keep blooms coming, or let a few pods ripen for next year's self-sown plants.
