How to grow Rendezvous Carnations seeds

Choose Your Planting Method

  • Indoors: Start indoors 10-12 weeks before the last frost for first-year blooms.
  • Outdoors: Direct sow outdoors after the last frost once the soil has warmed.

Prepare Your Materials

  • Seed-starting trays or pots (if indoors)
  • Well-draining potting mix
  • Humidity dome or plastic wrap to hold moisture
  • Spray bottle for misting

Sowing the Seeds

  • Sow 1/16 inch deep and cover very lightly; the seeds benefit from light during germination.
  • Keep the soil evenly moist until seedlings emerge.

Provide the Right Conditions

  • Light: light aids germination
  • Temperature: 68-75°F (20-24°C) until germination, then grow seedlings on cooler and bright

Germination

  • Seeds sprout in about 7-14 days under warm, bright, humid conditions.
  • Move seedlings to a cool, bright spot once they emerge.

Transplanting

  • Harden off for a week or two before setting plants out after the last frost.
  • Space plants 12-18 inches apart for good air circulation.

Care Tips

  • Sun: full sun for the strongest stems and most fragrant blooms.
  • Water: water moderately; carnations dislike soggy soil.
  • Deadhead regularly to encourage continuous blooming through the season.
  • Feeding is light: a balanced fertilizer once or twice a month during growth is enough.

Bloom Time:

Late spring through summer.
