Regal geraniums (Pelargonium x domesticum), also called Martha Washington geraniums, bear large, showy blooms in vivid colors with a velvety texture. They flower best in cool spring weather and prefer afternoon shade where summers are hot. Growing regals from seed takes patience — first blooms can take five to six months.

Why choose our seeds?

  • Large, showy blooms with a velvety texture
  • Flowers best in cool spring weather
  • Striking container and bedding plant

How to grow Regal Geranium Mix seeds

Choose Your Planting Method

  • Indoors: Start indoors 10-12 weeks before the last frost — regals are slow.
  • Outdoors: Plant out after all frost danger, when nights stay above 50°F (10°C).

Prepare Your Materials

  • Seed-starting trays or pots (if indoors)
  • Well-draining potting mix
  • Spray bottle for misting

Sowing the Seeds

  • Sow 1/8 inch deep; cover lightly with vermiculite.

Provide the Right Conditions

  • Light: Bright light; grow lights prevent legginess.
  • Temperature: Around 75°F (24°C).

Germination

  • Seeds sprout in 7-14 days (some take longer).
  • Grow on bright and cool once sprouted.

Transplanting

  • When seedlings have several true leaves
  • Harden off for two weeks in a sheltered, shady spot
  • Space 10-12 inches apart

Care Tips

  • Sun: Full sun to partial shade; afternoon shade where summers are hot.
  • Water: Let the top inch of soil dry between waterings.
  • Fertilizer: Feed lightly every 2-3 weeks once growing strongly.
  • Regals bloom heaviest in cool spring weather and dislike extreme heat.

Bloom Time:

Spring to early summer; first blooms can take five to six months from sowing.
