Red Cherry is a compact French marigold with vivid cherry-red blooms that glow against its dark green, ferny foliage. A tough, easy bedding plant for edging, borders and pots, it flowers for months with little care.
Why choose our seeds?
- Cherry-red blooms on compact, free-branching plants
- Months of color from summer to fall with simple deadheading
- Tough, heat-tolerant bedding plants for edges, borders and containers
How to grow Red Cherry Marigold seeds
Choose Your Planting Method
- Indoors: Start indoors 4-6 weeks before the last frost.
- Outdoors: Direct sow in mid-to-late spring, after all danger of frost.
Prepare Your Materials
- Seed-starting trays or pots (if indoors)
- Well-draining potting mix
- Spray bottle for misting
Sowing the Seeds
- Sow 1/4 inch deep in seed-starting mix or prepared garden soil.
- Keep evenly moist until germination.
Provide the Right Conditions
- Light: Bright light once sprouted.
- Temperature: 70-75°F (21-24°C).
Germination
- 5-14 days, typically 7-10.
- Grow on in bright light at slightly cooler temperatures; thin or pot up when seedlings are 2-3 inches tall.
Transplanting
- After the last frost, when nights are reliably warm.
- Harden off before planting out.
- 8-10 inches apart.
Care Tips
- Sun: Full sun.
- Water: Keep evenly moist during establishment; avoid waterlogged soil.
- Fertilizer: Light feeders — avoid heavy nitrogen, which produces leaves at the expense of flowers.
- Deadhead spent flowers regularly to keep new buds coming.
Bloom Time:
Summer through fall, beginning about 8 weeks after sowing.
