RaeAnn's Antares is a breeder-selected dahlia seedling from dahlia breeder RaeAnn Lobaugh, shown in the orchette exhibition class — an open-centered form prized by dahlia exhibitors. Like every dahlia grown from seed, each plant is genetically unique, so seedlings will show their own variation rather than being identical copies of the named parent. Expect vigorous plants with abundant blooms for cutting and garden display.
Why choose our seeds?
- Seeds of a recognized exhibition-bred dahlia seedling line
- Open-centered orchette-type blooms with strong garden presence
- Excellent cut flowers — cutting encourages more buds
How to grow RaeAnn's Antares Dahlia seeds
Choose Your Planting Method
- Indoors: Start indoors 4–8 weeks before the last frost.
- Outdoors: Sow directly after the last frost, once the soil has warmed.
Prepare Your Materials
- Seed-starting trays or pots (if indoors)
- Well-draining potting mix
- Spray bottle for misting
Sowing the Seeds
- Sow about 1/4 inch deep and cover lightly with mix.
- Keep the soil evenly moist until seedlings emerge.
Provide the Right Conditions
- Light: Bright light; full sun once outdoors.
- Temperature: 70°F (21°C) or warmer for germination.
- Humidity: Evenly moist soil; avoid waterlogging.
Germination
- Seedlings usually emerge in 10–14 days in warm soil.
- Grow on in strong light so young plants stay compact.
Transplanting
- Set out after all frost danger has passed.
- Space plants about 12 inches apart.
Care Tips
- Sun: Full sun for the most blooms.
- Water: Water regularly; dahlias like moist, well-drained soil.
- Fertilizer: Feed lightly through the season for steady flowering.
- Deadhead spent blooms often to keep new buds coming; taller plants may need staking.
Bloom Time:
Summer until frost. Because these are grown from seed, each plant is unique and blooms may differ from the named parent.
