Pink Perfection is a classic Camellia japonica cultivar admired for its perfectly symmetrical, formal-double blooms in soft pink. It forms an elegant evergreen shrub that flowers from late winter into spring, when little else is in bloom.

Why choose our seeds?

  • Perfectly symmetrical, formal-double blooms in soft pink
  • Flowers from late winter into spring, ahead of most shrubs
  • Elegant evergreen shrub for sheltered borders and containers

How to grow Pink Perfection Camellia seeds

Choose Your Planting Method

  • Indoors: Start seeds indoors in late winter or early spring. Soak seeds in warm water for 12–24 hours before sowing.
  • Outdoors: Sow outdoors in autumn in mild-winter areas, in a sheltered, partially shaded spot with rich soil.

Prepare Your Materials

  • Seed-starting trays or pots (if indoors)
  • Well-draining potting mix
  • Well-draining, slightly acidic (ericaceous) potting mix
  • Clear dome or plastic wrap to hold humidity
  • Spray bottle for misting

Sowing the Seeds

  • Soak seeds in warm water for 12–24 hours before sowing to soften the hard coat.
  • Sow each seed about 3/4 inch (2 cm) deep in moist mix. Seeds must not dry out before germination.
  • A 60-day cold stratification in the refrigerator can improve germination of stored seed; fresh seed often sprouts without it.

Provide the Right Conditions

  • Light: Bright, indirect light; young plants prefer partial shade.
  • Temperature: Around 68–77°F (20–25°C).
  • Humidity: Keep the mix evenly moist but never soggy; a cover helps hold humidity until seedlings appear.

Germination

  • Germination is slow and uneven — typically several weeks to a few months, so be patient.
  • Grow seedlings on in deep pots; camellias dislike root disturbance, so move them as little as possible.

Transplanting

  • Move seedlings to larger pots once they have several true leaves, disturbing the roots as little as possible.
  • Set out after the last frost in a sheltered spot.
  • Spacing: Give plants several feet of room — camellias grow into substantial shrubs over time.

Care Tips

  • Sun: Partial shade; shelter from hot midday sun and strong winds.
  • Water: Keep soil evenly moist but never waterlogged; a mulch layer helps hold moisture.
  • Fertilizer: Feed twice a year with a fertilizer formulated for acid-loving plants.

Bloom Time:

Blooms in late winter to spring once mature. Plants grown from seed can take several years to flower, and seedlings may differ in flower color and form from the parent plant.
