Farewell to Spring (Clarkia amoena), also called godetia, is a cool-season annual with satiny, cup-shaped pink blooms. Plants grow 12-24 inches tall and flower in late spring to early summer, just as many spring bulbs are finishing. Lovely in borders, cottage gardens, and wildflower plantings — and the blooms make good cut flowers.
Why choose our seeds?
- Satiny pink, cup-shaped blooms in late spring to early summer
- Cool-season annual that thrives where summers are mild
- Good cut flower; 30 seeds per packet
How to grow Pink Farewell to Spring seeds
Choose Your Planting Method
- Indoors: Start indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost, though direct sowing gives sturdier plants.
- Outdoors: Direct sow in early spring as soon as the soil can be worked, or in fall in mild climates.
Prepare Your Materials
- Seed-starting trays or pots (if indoors)
- Well-draining seed-starting mix
- Spray bottle for misting
Sowing the Seeds
- Surface sow — press seeds gently into the soil but do not cover, as light aids germination.
- No pre-treatment needed.
Provide the Right Conditions
- Light: Bright light for seedlings; full sun to light shade outdoors.
- Temperature: Cool conditions suit it best; germinates well at typical room temperature.
Germination
- Seedlings emerge in 7-14 days.
- Keep the seedbed evenly moist until germination.
Transplanting
- Thin or transplant to 6-12 inches apart.
- Handle seedlings gently — clarkia dislikes root disturbance.
Care Tips
- Sun: Full sun in cool climates; afternoon shade where summers are hot.
- Water: Water regularly until blooming begins; established plants tolerate drier soil.
- Fertilizer: Avoid rich soil and heavy feeding — over-fertilized plants grow leggy with few blooms.
- Pinch the growing tips of young plants to encourage branching.
- Deadhead to extend the bloom season; taller stems may need support.
Bloom Time:
Blooms late spring to early summer, roughly 90 days after sowing.
