Peach Melba nasturtium (Tropaeolum majus) is a compact, dwarf variety with 2 to 2.5-inch flowers in soft peachy-cream tones marked with a deep red eye at the throat. It forms tidy, mounding plants about 10-14 inches tall, well suited to brightening borders, containers, and hanging baskets through the warm season.
Why choose our seeds?
- Soft peachy-cream blooms with a contrasting deep red center
- Compact dwarf habit, about 10-14 inches tall
- Good for borders, containers, and hanging baskets
How to grow Peach Melba Nasturtium seeds
Choose Your Planting Method
- Indoors: Indoor starting is not needed; nasturtiums are usually sown directly where they will grow. If started indoors, use biodegradable pots, as the roots dislike disturbance.
- Outdoors: Sow directly 1-2 weeks after the average last frost date; in mild climates, fall sowing works for winter bloom.
Prepare Your Materials
- A prepared garden bed or containers
- Well-draining soil
- Watering can or hose with a gentle spray
Sowing the Seeds
- Sow seeds 1/2 to 1 inch (1.5-2.5 cm) deep.
- Soak seeds in warm water overnight before sowing to speed sprouting, then plant 3 seeds together every 8-12 inches and thin to one seedling per spot.
Provide the Right Conditions
- Light: Full sun; partial shade during the hottest afternoon hours in very hot climates.
- Temperature: Soil of 55-65°F (12-18°C) is ideal for germination.
Germination
- Seedlings typically emerge in 7-14 days.
- Keep the soil evenly moist but not waterlogged until seedlings are up.
Transplanting
- Nasturtiums prefer to stay where they are sown; if started indoors, move seedlings out after the last frost without disturbing the roots.
- Space final plants 8-12 inches (20-30 cm) apart.
Care Tips
- Sun: Full sun; afternoon shade helps where summers are very hot.
- Water: Water regularly through the season, letting the surface dry slightly between waterings; avoid overwatering.
- Fertilizer: Plant in average or even poor soil and skip extra fertilizer — rich soil grows leaves at the expense of flowers.
- The flowers are edible with a peppery flavor and make a colorful garnish for salads.
Bloom Time:
Flowers from late spring until frost.
