Oasis Shungiku is an edible chrysanthemum (Glebionis coronaria, also called Tong Ho) grown as a fast, cool-season leafy green. The tender, aromatic leaves have a distinctive chrysanthemum flavor prized in East Asian cooking, for hot pot, stir-fries, and salads. It grows quickly in spring and fall, and the yellow daisy flowers are edible too.

How to grow Oasis Shungiku seeds
Choose Your Planting Method
- Indoors: Sow 3-4 weeks before your last frost for an early spring start.
- Outdoors: Direct sow in early spring or late summer for a fall crop.
Prepare Your Materials
- Seed-starting trays or pots
- Well-draining seed-starting mix or fertile garden soil
- Spray bottle for misting
Sowing the Seeds
- Sow about 1/4 inch deep in moist soil.
- Keep the seedbed evenly moist until seedlings are established.
Provide the Right Conditions
- Light: Full sun to partial shade; some afternoon shade suits it in warm weather.
- Temperature: Cool-season germination around 60-70°F (15-21°C).
Germination
- Seeds germinate in about 7-10 days in cool soil.
- Thin seedlings to 4-6 inches apart, or grow densely for baby-leaf harvests.
Transplanting
- Transplant after the last frost, spacing plants 4-6 inches apart.
- Shungiku grows fast; succession sow every two to three weeks for a steady supply.
Care Tips
- Sun: Full sun to partial shade.
- Water: Keep the soil consistently moist for tender leaves.
- Fertilizer: A light feeding at planting is enough.
- Harvest outer leaves when young and tender; plants bolt quickly in hot weather, so focus sowings on spring and fall.
Harvest Time:
About 30-40 days from sowing; begin cutting leaves when plants are 6-8 inches tall.
