Nonstop Joy Mix is a blend of tuberous begonias (Begonia tuberhybrida) with large, fully double blooms in assorted colors. These are the classic shade-loving bedding begonias for containers, hanging baskets and shaded borders, flowering from summer until frost. Seed-grown plants develop tubers that can be stored over winter.
Why choose our seeds?
- Large, fully double blooms in a mix of colors
- Shade-loving — ideal for containers, baskets and shaded borders
- Blooms from summer until frost; tubers can be stored over winter
How to grow Nonstop Joy Mix Tuberous Begonia seeds
Choose Your Planting Method
- Indoors: Start indoors 12-16 weeks before your last frost date — tuberous begonias need a long head start.
- Outdoors: Outdoor sowing is not recommended; plant out nursery-grown seedlings only after all frost danger has passed.
Prepare Your Materials
- Seed-starting trays or pots (if indoors)
- Well-draining potting mix
- Fine, sterile seed-starting mix
- Humidity dome or clear plastic cover
- Spray bottle for misting
Sowing the Seeds
- Surface-sow: press seeds gently into the mix — they need light to germinate, so do not cover them.
- Mist carefully to moisten and cover to hold humidity; never let the surface dry out.
Provide the Right Conditions
- Light: Bright, indirect light or grow lights (14-16 hours a day); needs light to germinate.
- Temperature: 70-75°F (21-24°C) for germination; grow on cooler, around 60-65°F (16-18°C).
- Humidity: High humidity is essential during germination — use a dome and open it briefly each day for fresh air.
Germination
- 14-21 days (sometimes longer).
- Remove the cover once seedlings emerge; keep them under bright light and transplant into individual pots 4-5 weeks after germination.
Transplanting
- Plant outdoors after the last frost; harden plants off for 7-10 days in a shady, sheltered spot first.
- Spacing: About 10 inches apart
Care Tips
- Sun: Partial to full shade — avoid direct midday sun, which scorches the leaves.
- Water: Keep soil consistently moist but not waterlogged.
- Fertilizer: Feed every 2-3 weeks with a balanced water-soluble fertilizer for continuous blooms.
- These begonias are largely self-cleaning, so little deadheading is needed.
Bloom Time:
Summer through fall.
