This mix brings the flamboyant color of bougainvillea from seed: papery bracts in shades of red, pink, purple, orange, and white. These vigorous, scrambling vines are the classic choice for sunny walls, trellises, and large containers in warm climates, or as container plants moved indoors for winter elsewhere. Colors will vary from plant to plant.

Why choose our seeds?

  • Brilliant bract colors in red, pink, purple, orange, and white
  • Vigorous vine for trellises, walls, and large containers
  • Tolerates dry spells once established

How to grow Mixed Bougainvillea seeds

Choose Your Planting Method

  • Indoors: Start indoors in spring for the longest first season.
  • Outdoors: Plant out after all danger of frost, in warm weather.

Prepare Your Materials

  • Seed-starting trays or pots (if indoors)
  • Well-draining seed-starting mix
  • Spray bottle for misting

Sowing the Seeds

  • Sow about 1/4 inch deep in a well-draining mix.
  • Handle seedlings gently; bougainvillea roots are delicate and easily damaged.

Provide the Right Conditions

  • Light: Bright light.
  • Temperature: Keep warm, around 65-75°F (18-24°C).

Germination

  • Germination typically takes 20-30 days; be patient.
  • Keep the mix lightly moist but never soggy.

Transplanting

  • Move to larger pots as seedlings grow; plant out in full sun with sturdy support.
  • Set the plant at the same depth it was growing; do not loosen or disturb the root ball.

Care Tips

  • Sun: Full sun for the best flowering; deep shade prevents blooming.
  • Water: Water regularly while establishing, then allow the soil to dry between waterings; established plants tolerate dry spells. Never leave in standing water.
  • Fertilizer: Feed twice a year with a flowering-shrub fertilizer; bougainvillea are heavy feeders.
  • Prune after flowering to keep vigorous varieties under control; wear gloves, as the plant is thorny.

Bloom Time:

Summer into autumn; heaviest bloom comes in full sun with drier conditions.
