This ageratum mix (Ageratum houstonianum) brings soft, powder-puff flower clusters in a range of colors on compact, mounding plants. It blooms from early summer until the first frost, making it a dependable choice for the front of borders, edging and containers.

Why choose our seeds?

  • Soft, fuzzy “powder-puff” blooms in mixed colors
  • Compact, mounding plants for edging and containers
  • Blooms continuously from summer until the first frost

How to grow MIX Ageratum seeds

Choose Your Planting Method

  • Indoors: Start seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before your last frost date.
  • Outdoors: Direct sow 1-2 weeks after the last frost, once the soil has warmed.

Prepare Your Materials

  • Seed-starting trays or pots (if indoors)
  • Well-draining potting mix
  • Humidity dome or clear plastic cover (optional)
  • Spray bottle for misting

Sowing the Seeds

  • Surface-sow: press seeds lightly into the soil surface — they need light to germinate, so do not cover them.
  • Mist gently and keep evenly moist.

Provide the Right Conditions

  • Light: Bright light; needs light to germinate.
  • Temperature: 70-75°F (21-24°C) until germination; then grow on cooler, around 60-65°F (16-18°C).
  • Humidity: A light cover helps hold moisture until seeds sprout.

Germination

  • 5-14 days (sometimes up to 3 weeks).
  • Grow on in bright light; pinch the tips of young plants to encourage bushier growth.

Transplanting

  • Plant out after all danger of frost has passed; harden seedlings off first.
  • Spacing: 6-10 inches apart

Care Tips

  • Sun: Full sun to partial shade.
  • Water: Water regularly to keep soil evenly moist; plants wilt quickly if allowed to dry out.
  • Fertilizer: Mix compost into the planting bed; light feeding is enough.
  • Deadhead lightly now and then to keep plants looking fresh into fall.

Bloom Time:

Early summer until the first frost.
