Maverick Mix Geranium is a zonal-type geranium (Pelargonium zonale) seed mix offering large, rounded flower clusters in a range of bright colors on uniform, well-branched plants. Zonal geraniums are the classic bedding and container plant, blooming tirelessly from planting time until frost. Start the seeds indoors well ahead of spring for the longest possible season of color.
Why choose our seeds?
- Large, bright flower clusters in a varied color mix on uniform plants
- Continuous bloom from planting time until frost
- A standout in containers, window boxes, borders, and as a houseplant
How to grow Maverick Mix Geranium seeds
Choose Your Planting Method
- Indoors: Sow 8-10 weeks before your last frost; geraniums are slow to reach bloom size, so start early.
- Outdoors: Plant seedlings out after all danger of frost has passed.
Prepare Your Materials
- Seed-starting trays or pots
- Porous, well-draining seed-starting mix (geraniums dislike soggy soil)
- Fine vermiculite for covering
- Spray bottle for misting
Sowing the Seeds
- Sow on the surface of the mix and cover with a thin layer of vermiculite to hold moisture.
- Light is not required for germination; darkness or light both work.
Provide the Right Conditions
- Light: Bright light as soon as seedlings emerge; 12-16 hours of strong light keeps them stocky.
- Temperature: Around 73°F (23°C) for the fastest germination.
Germination
- Seeds typically germinate in 5-7 days at warm temperatures.
- Water carefully from below or with a gentle mist to avoid disturbing the seeds.
Transplanting
- Transplant to individual pots when seedlings have their first true leaves.
- Harden off and plant out after frost, spacing plants 10-12 inches apart.
Care Tips
- Sun: Full sun for the most flowers.
- Water: Water when the surface of the soil feels dry; geraniums tolerate brief dry spells but bloom best with regular watering.
- Fertilizer: Feed every two weeks with a diluted balanced fertilizer.
- Pinch young plants once to encourage branching, and deadhead spent flower clusters regularly.
Bloom Time:
Late spring to fall; plants bloom continuously until frost.
