Growing Instructions
- When to Plant: Direct sow in spring after the last frost; dill has a deep taproot and does not transplant well.
- Soil: Well-drained, moderately fertile soil with a pH of 5.5–7.0; choose a spot sheltered from strong wind.
- Sunlight: Full sun.
- Watering: Water regularly, especially during dry spells; avoid waterlogging.
- Spacing: Sow 1/4 in deep and thin seedlings to 8–12 in (20–30 cm) apart.
- Germination: Sow 1/4 in deep in moist soil; seedlings emerge in 7–21 days at 60–70°F (15–21°C).
- Harvest: Cut leaves as needed once plants have several sets of fronds (about 60–75 days); leave some plants to flower and set seed for pickling (about 95–110 days).
- Tips: Sow a new round every 2–3 weeks for a continuous supply, and keep dill away from fennel to avoid cross-pollination.
