Kimono Mix Celosia (Celosia argentea var. plumosa) is a super-dwarf plume celosia that packs tiny, densely clustered flowers into 2- to 3-inch feathery plumes. Its uniform, compact habit makes it outstanding for patio containers, edging, and massed bedding displays in hot summer gardens.
Why choose our seeds?
- Dwarf plants with neat, upright pyramidal plumes in mixed warm shades
- Uniform habit and flowering time for tidy bedding displays
- Excellent for containers, borders, and low edging
How to grow Kimono Mix Celosia seeds
Choose Your Planting Method
- Indoors: Start seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost date.
- Outdoors: Direct sow after the last frost, when the soil is warm.
Prepare Your Materials
- Seed-starting trays or pots (if indoors)
- Well-draining seed-starting mix
- Plastic wrap or a humidity dome (to hold in moisture until sprouting)
- Spray bottle for misting
Sowing the Seeds
- Sow on the surface and press in lightly, covering with no more than a dusting of mix; celosia seeds germinate best with light.
- Mist gently so the tiny seeds are not washed away.
Provide the Right Conditions
- Light: Bright light; seedlings need strong light to stay compact.
- Temperature: 70-80°F (21-27°C) for germination.
- Humidity: Cover the tray until seeds sprout, then remove the cover.
Germination
- Seeds sprout in 7-14 days at warm temperatures.
- Celosia roots are delicate, so transplant seedlings once and handle them gently.
Transplanting
- Set plants out only after all danger of frost has passed and the weather is warm.
- Space plants 8-10 inches apart.
Care Tips
- Sun: Full sun for the strongest color and compact habit.
- Water: Water regularly but avoid waterlogging; let the surface dry slightly between waterings.
- Fertilizer: Feed every two weeks with a balanced liquid fertilizer to keep blooms coming.
- Pinch out the first plume to encourage branching and more flowers.
Bloom Time:
Summer until frost; dwarf plumes cover the plants from midsummer onward.
