Indian Prince is a pot marigold (Calendula officinalis) with double blooms in deep golden-orange, the backs of the petals flushed mahogany, around dark centers. A cool-season annual, it brings rich color to spring beds, borders, and containers — and its petals are edible, adding color to salads.

Why choose our seeds?

  • Rich golden-orange double blooms with mahogany backs and dark centers
  • Cool-season bloomer for spring color before summer heat
  • Edible petals; great for beds, borders, and containers

How to grow Indian Prince Calendula seeds

Choose Your Planting Method

  • Indoors: Start 4–6 weeks before the last frost.
  • Outdoors: Direct sow in early spring as soon as the soil can be worked, or in late summer for fall bloom.

Prepare Your Materials

  • Seed-starting trays or pots (if indoors)
  • Well-draining potting mix
  • Spray bottle for misting

Sowing the Seeds

  • Sow 1/4 inch deep and cover lightly with soil.
  • No pre-treatment is needed.

Provide the Right Conditions

  • Light: Bright light after emergence.
  • Temperature: 60°F (16°C) soil is ideal; calendula prefers cool conditions.

Germination

  • Seedlings emerge in 10–15 days.
  • Keep the soil evenly moist until sprouts appear.

Transplanting

  • Move out in early spring — calendula tolerates light frost.
  • Thin or space plants about 16 inches apart.

Care Tips

  • Sun: Full sun for the most flowers.
  • Water: Moderate; calendula does well in average, well-drained soil.
  • Fertilizer: Average soil is fine; no heavy feeding needed.
  • Deadhead to extend bloom, and sow every few weeks for a succession of flowers; bloom fades in summer heat, so a late-summer sowing extends the season into fall.

Bloom Time:

Spring to early summer (and fall from a late-summer sowing).
