Green Twister Echinacea (Echinacea purpurea) is an unusual coneflower with two-tone blooms: lime-green ray petals shading to rose-pink at the tips, surrounding the classic coppery cone. Coneflowers are tough, long-blooming perennials for sunny borders, and the seed heads feed goldfinches in fall. Plants bloom in their first year from an early start.

Why choose our seeds?

  • Distinctive green-and-pink two-tone blooms unlike any ordinary coneflower
  • Tough, long-blooming perennial; first-year flowers from an early indoor start
  • Seed heads feed birds in fall; dried cones suit winter arrangements

How to grow Green Twister Echinacea seeds

Choose Your Planting Method

  • Indoors: Start 8-10 weeks before your last frost for first-year blooms.
  • Outdoors: Direct sow in spring or fall.

Prepare Your Materials

  • Seed-starting trays or pots
  • Well-draining seed-starting mix
  • Spray bottle for misting

Sowing the Seeds

  • Sow about 1/8-1/4 inch deep and cover lightly with mix.
  • Keep the mix evenly moist but not soggy.

Provide the Right Conditions

  • Light: Bright light after sprouting.
  • Temperature: 70-75°F (21-24°C).

Germination

  • Seeds germinate in about 15-20 days.
  • Grow seedlings on in strong light to keep them compact.

Transplanting

  • Plant out after the last frost, spacing plants 18-24 inches apart.
  • Plants develop deep taproots, so settle them into their final spot early.

Care Tips

  • Sun: Full sun for the strongest stems and most blooms.
  • Water: Water until established; mature plants are quite drought tolerant.
  • Fertilizer: Little is needed; lean soil actually encourages sturdier plants.
  • Deadhead to prolong bloom, or leave the cones standing for the birds.

Bloom Time:

Summer to early fall; first-year blooms from an early start, full displays from year two.
