Giant Bamboo is a large, fast-growing ornamental bamboo prized for its tall, sturdy culms and lush evergreen foliage. It makes a dramatic screen, windbreak, or specimen planting in warm climates and roomy landscapes.

Why choose our seeds?

  • Towering culms that create a fast, dramatic privacy screen
  • Lush foliage that stays green through the warm seasons
  • A bold structural plant for large gardens and open landscapes

How to grow Giant Bamboo seeds

Choose Your Planting Method

  • Indoors: Start seeds in trays 8-10 weeks before warm weather arrives.
  • Outdoors: Sow directly in spring once soil has warmed to at least 60°F (16°C).

Prepare Your Materials

  • Seed-starting trays or deep pots (if indoors)
  • Sandy, well-draining seed-starting mix
  • Spray bottle for misting

Sowing the Seeds

  • Soak seeds in lukewarm water for 12-24 hours before sowing to soften the seed coat.
  • Sow about 1/2 inch (1.5 cm) deep in moist mix and firm gently.

Provide the Right Conditions

  • Light: Bright light; full sun to partial shade once seedlings are up.
  • Temperature: 68-86°F (20-30°C); warmer soil speeds sprouting.

Germination

  • Seeds generally sprout in 10-30 days; cooler soil takes longer, so be patient.
  • Keep the mix evenly moist (never soggy) until seedlings emerge.

Transplanting

  • Move seedlings to larger pots or the garden when they are 4-6 inches tall and nights are warm.
  • Give bamboo plenty of room to run, or install a rhizome barrier to contain it.

Care Tips

  • Sun: Full sun to partial shade.
  • Water: Keep soil evenly moist in the first year; established clumps tolerate drier spells.
  • Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced fertilizer in spring for strong new shoots.

Bloom Time:

Giant Bamboo is grown for its tall culms and foliage; bamboo flowers only rarely and unpredictably.
