How to grow Florence White Cornflower seeds
Choose Your Planting Method
- Indoors: Start indoors 3-4 weeks before the last frost.
- Outdoors: Direct sow in early spring as soon as the soil can be worked, or in fall in mild climates.
Prepare Your Materials
- Seed-starting trays or pots (if indoors)
- Well-draining seed-starting mix
- Spray bottle for misting
Sowing the Seeds
- Sow 1/4 inch deep and cover lightly with soil.
- Keep the seedbed evenly moist until germination.
Provide the Right Conditions
- Light: Full sun.
- Temperature: 60-70°F (16-21°C) for germination.
Germination
- Seedlings emerge in 7-14 days.
- Thin to the strongest seedlings.
Transplanting
- Transplant before seedlings reach 5 inches tall — cornflowers prefer direct sowing.
- Space plants 8-12 inches apart.
Care Tips
- Sun: Full sun; tolerates light shade.
- Water: Water regularly until established; tolerates drier soil afterward.
- Fertilizer: Average soil is fine; avoid heavy feeding.
- Deadhead regularly to prolong flowering; leave a few heads to self-sow.
Bloom Time:
Blooms from early summer through fall.
