Fiesta tropical hibiscus (Hibiscus rosa-sinensis type) is grown for its big, ruffled blooms in warm orange with golden margins, a white center flare, and a reddish eye — a festive, almost hand-painted look. In warm climates it can bloom nearly year-round; elsewhere it shines as a summer patio plant.

A note on honesty: named tropical hibiscus varieties are normally propagated by cuttings, so seedlings from these seeds will be tropical hibiscus plants with their own variation in flower color and form rather than exact copies of 'Fiesta'.

Why choose our seeds?

  • Large ruffled blooms in orange with golden margins and a red eye
  • Blooms in summer, nearly year-round in frost-free climates
  • Glossy evergreen foliage; excellent patio or conservatory plant

How to grow Fiesta Hibiscus seeds

Choose Your Planting Method

  • Indoors: Start indoors 8 to 10 weeks before warm weather; tropical hibiscus needs steady warmth.
  • Outdoors: Sow outdoors only after nights are reliably warm, well past frost.

Prepare Your Materials

  • Seed-starting trays or pots (if indoors)
  • Well-draining potting mix
  • Spray bottle for misting

Sowing the Seeds

  • Nick the seed coat or soak overnight in warm water to help water in.
  • Sow about 1/4 inch deep in moist, well-draining mix.

Provide the Right Conditions

  • Light: Bright light; warmth matters more than anything at this stage.
  • Temperature: 75–85°F (24–29°C); bottom heat is very helpful.
  • Humidity: Keep warm and evenly moist; a humidity dome or plastic cover helps.

Germination

  • Germination in about 14 to 30 days.
  • Grow seedlings on warm and bright; they dislike cool, soggy conditions.

Transplanting

  • Pot up as plants grow; move outdoors only when nights stay above 55°F (13°C).
  • Spacing: One plant per large pot, or 24 to 36 inches apart in frost-free gardens.

Care Tips

  • Sun: Full sun to light shade; the most blooms come with strong light.
  • Water: Regular water; do not let pots dry out completely, but ensure good drainage.
  • Fertilizer: Feed regularly with a balanced fertilizer during the growing season for continuous bloom.
  • Deadhead to keep plants tidy and blooming. Overwinter indoors in bright light before first frost in cold climates.

Bloom Time:

Blooms from summer into fall outdoors; nearly year-round in warm, frost-free climates.
