How to grow Echo Purple Eustoma Lisianthus seeds
Choose Your Planting Method
- Indoors: Start indoors in late winter — lisianthus needs a long head start (12 or more weeks before the last frost).
- Outdoors: Transplant outdoors only after the last frost, when seedlings are sturdy with several true leaves.
Prepare Your Materials
- Seed-starting trays or pots (if indoors)
- Well-draining seed-starting mix
- Humidity dome or plastic wrap (to hold in moisture)
- Spray bottle for misting
Sowing the Seeds
- Sow on the surface of moist mix and press gently — the tiny seeds need light to germinate and must not be buried.
- Cover with a humidity dome or plastic wrap to hold moisture; vent daily.
Provide the Right Conditions
- Light: Bright light; 12 or more hours of light daily gives the best germination.
- Temperature: 68-77°F (20-25°C) for germination; grow on cooler, around 60-65°F (16-18°C), to avoid rosetting.
- Humidity: Keep the surface evenly moist but never waterlogged; mist rather than drench.
Germination
- Germination takes 10-21 days and seedlings grow slowly.
- Transplant carefully — lisianthus dislikes root disturbance.
Transplanting
- Pot on when seedlings have about 4 true leaves.
- Plant out 8-10 inches apart in rich, well-drained soil; provide twiggy supports.
Care Tips
- Sun: Full sun; afternoon shade in very hot climates.
- Water: Water well at planting, then keep soil evenly moist.
- Fertilizer: Feed lightly and regularly through the season for the best blooms.
Bloom Time:
Blooms in summer, roughly 60-75 days after transplanting.
