'Durango' is a dwarf French marigold (Tagetes patula) series bred for unusually large, full blooms on compact, well-branched plants. This selection flowers freely from summer to fall and stays neat in edgings, borders and containers.

Why choose our seeds?

  • Large, fully double blooms on compact, mounding plants
  • Free-flowering from summer to fall with regular deadheading
  • Neat habit for edging, borders, window boxes and containers

How to grow Durango Bee Marigold (Tagetes patula) seeds

Choose Your Planting Method

  • Indoors: Start indoors 4-6 weeks before the last frost.
  • Outdoors: Direct sow in mid-to-late spring, after all danger of frost.

Prepare Your Materials

  • Seed-starting trays or pots (if indoors)
  • Well-draining potting mix
  • Spray bottle for misting

Sowing the Seeds

  • Sow 1/4 inch deep in seed-starting mix or prepared garden soil.
  • Keep evenly moist until germination.

Provide the Right Conditions

  • Light: Bright light once sprouted.
  • Temperature: 70-75°F (21-24°C).

Germination

  • 5-14 days, typically 7-10.
  • Grow on in bright light at slightly cooler temperatures; thin or pot up when seedlings are 2-3 inches tall.

Transplanting

  • After the last frost, when nights are reliably warm.
  • Harden off before planting out.
  • 8-10 inches apart.

Care Tips

  • Sun: Full sun.
  • Water: Keep evenly moist during establishment; avoid waterlogged soil.
  • Fertilizer: Light feeders — avoid heavy nitrogen, which produces leaves at the expense of flowers.
  • Deadhead spent flowers regularly to keep new buds coming.

Bloom Time:

Summer through fall, beginning about 8 weeks after sowing.
