Drummond's Pink is an annual phlox (Phlox drummondii) that forms neat mounds of dense, lightly fragrant pink flower clusters from early summer onward. It is a classic cottage-garden bedding plant for the front of borders, edging paths, and containers. The blooms also make charming small cut flowers.
Why choose our seeds?
- Dense clusters of pink, five-petaled blooms
- Compact, bushy habit for bedding and edging
- Blooms from early summer to autumn with deadheading
How to grow Drummond's Pink Creeping Phlox seeds
Choose Your Planting Method
- Indoors: Start seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost.
- Outdoors: Sow directly outdoors in April or May, after the danger of frost has passed.
Prepare Your Materials
- Seed-starting trays or pots (if indoors)
- Well-draining potting mix
- Plastic wrap or a humidity dome to hold moisture
- Spray bottle for misting
Sowing the Seeds
- Sow 1.5 mm (1/16 inch) deep and cover the tray to exclude light until germination.
- Keep the seed compost evenly moist but never soggy.
Provide the Right Conditions
- Light: Germinate in darkness; move to bright light as soon as seedlings emerge.
- Temperature: 60-68°F (16-20°C) for germination.
Germination
- Germination usually takes 10-21 days.
- Transplant seedlings into individual pots once they have a couple of true leaves.
Transplanting
- Plant out after the last frost, when seedlings are sturdy.
- Harden off over 7-10 days before planting out.
- Space 12 inches (30 cm) apart in rich, well-drained soil.
Care Tips
- Sun: Full sun; light afternoon shade helps in very hot climates.
- Water: Water evenly and regularly; avoid wetting the foliage to discourage mildew.
- Fertilizer: Feed every few weeks during summer for the longest display.
- Pinch out the growing tips when plants are about 3 inches tall to encourage bushy growth.
Bloom Time:
Early summer to autumn, starting about 60-75 days from sowing.
