Darcy Bussell is a deep crimson-red English rose. Plants grown from seed will be unique seedlings rather than exact copies of the named variety - growing roses from seed is a slow but rewarding project for patient gardeners.

Why choose our seeds?

  • The chance to raise your own unique rose seedlings
  • Rich crimson-red coloring in the parent variety
  • Sturdy, woody shrub habit once established

How to grow Darcy Bussell Rose seeds

Choose Your Planting Method

  • Indoors: Stratify seeds first (see below), then sow indoors in late winter or early spring.
  • Outdoors: Sow stratified seed in spring after the last frost.

Prepare Your Materials

  • Damp peat moss or paper towels and a sealed bag (for stratification)
  • Seed-starting trays or small pots
  • Well-draining seed-starting mix
  • Humidity dome or plastic wrap

Sowing the Seeds

  • Soak seeds in clean water for 24 hours, then cold-stratify: seal in damp peat moss or a damp paper towel inside a bag and refrigerate for 6-12 weeks.
  • Sow stratified seeds 1/4 inch deep and keep evenly moist.

Provide the Right Conditions

  • Light: Bright, indirect light after sowing.
  • Temperature: 70-75°F (21-24°C) after the chilling period.

Germination

  • Slow and irregular - typically 4-12 weeks, sometimes longer.
  • Remove the cover once sprouts appear and give strong light.

Transplanting

  • Pot up seedlings when they have several sets of true leaves.
  • Plant out after the last frost; space 2-3 feet apart.

Care Tips

  • Sun: Full sun, at least 6 hours daily.
  • Water: Water deeply and regularly; let the top inch of soil dry slightly between waterings.
  • Fertilizer: Feed with rose fertilizer during the growing season once established.
  • Mulch around the base to retain moisture.

Bloom Time:

Seedlings typically take 1-2 years to produce their first full blooms; established plants bloom from late spring to fall.
