- Bushy, mounded plants for beds, borders and containers
- Steady bloom from late spring through fall
How to grow Daddy Mix Petunia seeds
Choose Your Planting Method
- Indoors: Start seeds indoors 8-10 weeks before your last frost date, on the surface of moist seed-starting mix.
- Outdoors: Direct sowing outdoors is possible after the last frost in warm soil, but indoor-started transplants give more reliable results.
Prepare Your Materials
- Seed-starting trays or pots (if indoors)
- Well-draining potting mix
- Humidity dome or clear plastic cover
- Spray bottle for misting
Sowing the Seeds
- Sow seeds on the surface and press them gently into the mix — petunia seeds need light to germinate, so do not cover them.
- Keep the surface evenly moist; a humidity dome helps until seedlings emerge.
Provide the Right Conditions
- Light: Bright light once sown — light aids germination.
- Temperature: 72-77°F (22-25°C) until germination, then 60-70°F (16-21°C).
- Humidity: A humidity dome or plastic cover helps keep the surface from drying out before germination.
Germination
- 7-10 days under warm, bright conditions.
- Remove the cover as soon as seedlings appear and give them bright light to keep them stocky.
Transplanting
- Transplant outdoors after all danger of frost has passed, once seedlings have several sets of true leaves.
- Spacing: 10-12 inches apart
Care Tips
- Sun: Full sun.
- Water: Water regularly; allow the soil surface to dry slightly between waterings — petunias are sensitive to overwatering.
- Fertilizer: Feed every 1-2 weeks with a balanced liquid fertilizer for continuous bloom.
- Allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings — petunias are sensitive to overwatering.
- Remove faded blooms to keep new buds coming.
Bloom Time:
Late spring through fall.
