Clarkia Mix (Clarkia amoena) produces satiny cup-shaped blooms in a range of pink and white shades on slender stems. These cool-season annuals dislike having their roots disturbed, so they are easiest when sown directly where they will flower, blooming from late spring into early summer.

Why choose our seeds?

  • Satin-like blooms in a mix of pink and white shades
  • Cool-season annual; blooms in late spring to early summer
  • Best sown directly, as plants dislike transplanting

How to grow Clarkia Mix seeds

Choose Your Planting Method

  • Indoors: Start seeds indoors 4-6 weeks before the last frost in biodegradable pots to limit root disturbance, or direct sow.
  • Outdoors: Sow directly outdoors after the last frost, where plants are to flower.

Prepare Your Materials

  • Seed-starting trays or pots (if indoors)
  • Well-draining potting mix
  • Spray bottle for misting

Sowing the Seeds

  • Scatter seeds on the surface of prepared soil and press gently; cover only very lightly, about 1/8 inch.
  • Keep the soil evenly moist until seedlings appear.

Provide the Right Conditions

  • Light: Full sun after germination; good light helps keep stems sturdy.
  • Temperature: 60-70°F (16-21°C) for germination.

Germination

  • Seeds typically germinate in 7-10 days.
  • Thin seedlings to stand 6-12 inches apart once they have a few true leaves.

Transplanting

  • If started indoors, transplant carefully with the root ball intact before seedlings become root-bound.
  • Harden off before moving plants outside.
  • Final spacing 6-12 inches.

Care Tips

  • Sun: Full sun in well-drained soil.
  • Water: Water regularly; established plants tolerate short dry spells better than soggy soil.
  • Fertilizer: Little fertilizer is needed; too much nitrogen produces soft, floppy growth.
  • Cut stems for bouquets in the morning when buds are just opening.

Bloom Time:

Late spring to early summer.
