Cindy's Heart Hibiscus (Hibiscus rosa-sinensis) is a tropical hibiscus cultivar grown for its large, showy trumpet-shaped blooms on glossy evergreen foliage. As a tender tropical shrub it shines on sunny patios and in conservatories, and it grows well in containers that move indoors for winter in cooler climates.

Why choose our seeds?

  • Large, showy tropical blooms on glossy evergreen foliage
  • Long bloom season wherever summers are warm
  • Container-friendly and easy to overwinter indoors

How to grow Cindy's Heart Hibiscus seeds

Choose Your Planting Method

  • Indoors: Start seeds indoors 8-10 weeks before the last frost.
  • Outdoors: Sow outdoors after all danger of frost, once nights stay above 60°F (16°C).

Prepare Your Materials

  • Seed trays or small pots with drainage
  • Well-draining seed-starting mix
  • Humidity dome or plastic wrap
  • Nail file for scarifying the seed coat

Sowing the Seeds

  • Nick the hard seed coat lightly with a nail file, then soak in warm water for 12-24 hours.
  • Sow 1/4 inch deep in moist mix.

Provide the Right Conditions

  • Light: Bright, indirect light until germination, then full light.
  • Temperature: 75-85°F (24-29°C) for germination.

Germination

  • Seeds sprout in 2-4 weeks.
  • Keep the mix evenly moist but not waterlogged.

Transplanting

  • Move seedlings to individual pots when they have 2-3 sets of true leaves.
  • Plant out after the last frost; harden off first.

Care Tips

  • Sun: Full sun to part shade.
  • Water: Keep soil evenly moist; do not let it stay soggy.
  • Fertilizer: Feed regularly during the growing season with a balanced fertilizer.
  • Extra: Move indoors before the first frost in climates below zone 10; prune lightly in early spring.

Bloom Time:

Spring through fall in warm conditions; blooms begin once plants are well established. Seedlings may vary from the parent plant.
