Camelia-flowered begonias are fibrous (wax) begonias (Begonia hybrids) that bear full, rose-like double blooms instead of the usual single flowers. They form neat, compact mounds of glossy foliage — ideal for edging, containers, hanging baskets, and shady borders.
Why choose our seeds?
- Full, camellia-like double blooms on compact plants
- Neat mounding habit for edging, pots, and baskets
- Long flowering season from early summer to frost
How to grow Camelia Begonia seeds
Choose Your Planting Method
- Indoors: Start seeds indoors 10–12 weeks before the last expected frost — begonias are slow starters.
- Outdoors: Transplant outdoors only after all danger of frost has passed; direct outdoor sowing is not reliable in cool climates.
Prepare Your Materials
- Seed-starting trays or pots
- Fine, well-draining seed-starting mix
- Humidity dome or plastic wrap (important for these tiny seeds)
- Spray bottle for misting
Sowing the Seeds
- Sow on the surface of moist mix and press in very gently — do NOT cover; begonia seeds need light to germinate.
- No pre-treatment needed, but keep the mix evenly moist at all times.
Provide the Right Conditions
- Light: Bright light; seeds need light to sprout.
- Temperature: 72–78°F (22–26°C) for germination.
- Humidity: Cover with a dome or plastic until germination; keep humidity high.
Germination
- Seedlings typically emerge in 10–21 days.
- After germination, grow in bright light (12 or more hours daily) with night temperatures above 60°F.
Transplanting
- Transplant when seedlings are large enough to handle and all frost danger has passed.
- Harden off for 7–10 days before planting out.
- Space plants 6–8 inches apart.
Care Tips
- Sun: Part shade to full sun; afternoon shade is appreciated in hot climates.
- Water: Keep soil evenly moist; do not let plants wilt or sit in water.
- Fertilizer: Feed every 2 weeks with half-strength balanced liquid fertilizer.
- No pinching needed — plants branch naturally into neat mounds.
Bloom Time:
Early summer to frost.
