BIG is a Begonia × benariensis series known for extra-large 2–3 inch blooms held above glossy, heart-shaped leaves in green or bronze. Vigorous plants reach 18–24 inches and flower from spring to frost in full sun to full shade. Seed-grown plants may vary slightly from the named parent.
Why choose our seeds?
- Extra-large 2–3 inch blooms on vigorous plants
- Glossy, heart-shaped leaves in green or bronze
- Flowers from spring to frost in full sun to full shade
How to grow BIG Begonia seeds
Choose Your Planting Method
- Indoors: Start seeds 10–12 weeks before the last frost; begonias are slow starters.
- Outdoors: Sow outdoors only after all danger of frost has passed.
Prepare Your Materials
- Seed-starting trays or pots (if indoors)
- Fine, well-draining seed-starting mix
- Humidity dome or plastic wrap
- Spray bottle for misting
Sowing the Seeds
- Surface sow and do not cover; the fine seeds need light to germinate.
Provide the Right Conditions
- Light: Bright, indirect light for germination.
- Temperature: About 70–75°F (21–24°C).
- Humidity: A dome or plastic cover helps; keep the mix moist but never soggy.
Germination
- Seedlings usually emerge in 2–3 weeks.
- Grow on in bright, indirect light and fertilize lightly after germination.
Transplanting
- Transplant to larger pots about 6–7 weeks after sowing, then plant out after the last frost.
- Harden off indoor-grown plants before planting out.
- Space plants 12 inches apart.
Care Tips
- Sun: Full sun to full shade.
- Water: Water when the surface feels dry to the touch.
- Fertilizer: A time-release fertilizer at planting is enough for the season.
- Self-cleaning blooms mean no deadheading is needed.
Bloom Time:
Spring to frost (May–frost).
