Baby Doll Carnations are compact, dwarf carnations bred for pots, window boxes, and the front of borders. They produce charming double blooms with the classic spicy-sweet carnation fragrance on neat, bushy plants.

Why choose our seeds?

  • Dwarf, compact plants that stay neat in pots and small spaces
  • Fragrant double blooms in a cheerful mix of colors
  • Long flowering season with regular deadheading

How to grow Baby Doll Carnations seeds

Choose Your Planting Method

  • Indoors: Start seeds indoors 8-10 weeks before the last frost.
  • Outdoors: Sow outdoors after the last frost, or in late summer in mild climates.

Prepare Your Materials

  • Seed-starting trays or pots (if indoors)
  • Well-draining potting mix
  • Clear plastic wrap or a humidity dome
  • Spray bottle for misting

Sowing the Seeds

  • Press seeds into the surface of moist seed-starting mix and cover with only a fine sprinkling of mix — light aids germination
  • Keep the medium evenly moist but not waterlogged

Provide the Right Conditions

  • Light: Bright light; do not exclude light during germination
  • Temperature: 65-75°F (18-24°C)
  • Humidity: Cover with plastic wrap or a dome until germination, then ventilate

Germination

  • Seeds germinate in 7-14 days
  • Grow seedlings on in cooler, bright conditions (around 60°F / 16°C) so they stay compact

Transplanting

  • Transplant after frost danger has passed
  • Harden off over 7-10 days
  • Space plants about 12 inches apart

Care Tips

  • Sun: Full sun (4-6 hours minimum daily)
  • Water: Water moderately, letting the top of the soil dry slightly between waterings; avoid overwatering
  • Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 3-4 weeks during the growing season
  • Remove spent flowers regularly to encourage continued blooming and keep plants tidy

Bloom Time:

Late spring through summer.
