Exquisite Fragrant Rose Varieties (Part 1)

Below is the basic information about some rose varieties with unique and special fragrances (part 1) as experienced by Pemdas Garden.

1. Earth Angel Rose

Origin: Bred by Tim Herman Kordes, Germany in 2003, first introduced in Germany in 2013.
Characteristics: Tall shrub, mature height 120-160 cm.
Color: Pink blush, white-pink.
Bloom Size: 8-12 cm, lasts 5-7 days.
Fragrance: When just opening, the flower has a light fresh scent of lemon and apple, like early summer rains. When fully open, it has a strong fragrance of raspberry mixed with the seductive scent of champagne.
Bloom Cycle: Year-round, every 4-5 weeks.
Disease Resistance: Good.
Note: In hot sunny weather, the flowers do not last long, only 4-5 days.

2. Poet’s Wife Rose

Origin: Bred by David Austin, England, introduced in 2014.
Characteristics: Shrub, mature height 120-150 cm.
Color: Yellow, pale yellow.
Bloom Size: 6-8 cm, lasts 3-5 days.
Fragrance: Intense apple scent, reminiscent of ripe apples with the sweetness near the seeds, mixed with a fresh, refined lemon scent. This rose is considered to have the most distinctive fragrance among the roses bred by the rose legend David Austin.
Bloom Cycle: Year-round, every 3-4 weeks.
Disease Resistance: Good.
Note: The yellow color is very attractive to thrips, so controlling thrips will help the plant thrive.

3. Yves Piaget Rose

Origin: Bred by Meilland, France, before 1981.
Characteristics: Shrub, sturdy cutting branch variety, mature height 120-150 cm.
Color: Pink blush, deep pink.
Bloom Size: 8-12 cm, lasts 5-8 days.
Fragrance: Sweet fruity scent. When fully open, the petals gradually melt like cream, releasing a rich, sweet fragrance like strawberry milk, mixed with the fresh scent of orange and lemon.
Bloom Cycle: Every 4-5 weeks.
Disease Resistance: Normal.
Note: The plant grows slowly due to producing large flowers. It still grows well even in hot climates.

4. Yves Maiden Heart Rose

Origin: Bred by Imai Horticulture, Japan.
Characteristics: Shrub, mature height 100-150 cm.
Color: White.
Bloom Size: 8-13 cm, lasts 4-6 days.
Fragrance: Cool and fresh like ice cream, mixed with the scent of lemon, tangerine, and Egyptian orange peel, evolving into the deep, rich scent of blueberries and ripe raspberries.
Bloom Cycle: Year-round, every 5-6 weeks.
Disease Resistance: Good.
Note: Grows slowly due to focusing on blooming. Because the branches are slender and the flowers are large, they often droop; support is needed for the plant.
