Advantages and Disadvantages of Yves Maiden Heart Roses

Advantages and Disadvantages of Yves Maiden Heart Roses

I. Basic Information

  • Origin: Hybridized by Imai Horticulture, Japan.
  • Characteristics: Shrub, mature height 150 – 180 cm.
  • Color: White with pink center, white with pink-orange center.
  • Flower size: 8-12 cm, lasts 6-8 days.
  • Fragrance: Intense, fruity scent mixed with myrrh.
  • Bloom cycle: Year-round, every 2-3 weeks.
  • Disease resistance: Average.

II. Advantages

  1. Tall, slim plant with few thorns: Mostly thornless.
  2. Strong fragrance: Intensely fragrant yet pleasant. A mix of lemon, apple, ripe raspberry, and lemongrass.
  3. Rapid growth: Considered the fastest growing in the Yves line. New shoots will produce flower buds.
  4. Heat tolerance: Can withstand high temperatures and erratic weather in southern regions. Even in hot weather, flowers can form attractive cups when the plant is mature and healthy.
  5. Prolific blooms and fast repeat blooming: Produces many flowers even when young. The bloom cycle is only 2-3 weeks, very short for a large-flowered rose

III. Disadvantages

  1. Rapid growth with long, weak stems: Requires support for the stems when planted.
  2. Weak stems unable to support large flowers: Flowers often droop. When the shrub reaches a height of 1.6 meters or more, or when grown as a tree, it is easier to enjoy the blooms.
