Care Experience for Yves Rose Varieties
Care Experience for Yves Rose Varieties
The Yves collection features large roses that stand out in terms of color, shape, and fragrance. Despite their perfection, the Yves varieties share a common drawback: most of them are slow-growing. Here are some tips for caring for Yves roses from Pemdas Garden.
- Diseases: Common issues include susceptibility to black stem and spider mites if not exposed to enough sunlight.
- Sunlight: As these are mostly sturdy cut flower varieties, Yves roses need to be planted in areas with at least 4 hours of direct sunlight per day to avoid diseases like spider mites and black stem (only a few types can tolerate less sunlight, about 2-3 hours, such as Yves Maiden Heart and Yves Sugar Art).
- Pruning: Since the plant is prone to black stem, avoid deep pruning during the rainy season. Limit pruning of leaves and branches when the plant is still small. Only remove faded flowers and one leaf below the flower. Wait until the plant is large and well-developed before performing deep pruning to shape the canopy.
- Fertilizing: When the plant is still young, the root system develops slowly and is unstable, so it is best to avoid excessive use of chemical fertilizers. Organic fertilizers are better to prevent burning the young roots.
